The Contest Results Are In!
The Lutheran Youth Choir of North America wishes to announce the results of its inaugural International Choral Composition Contest. Many fine compositions were received, including submissions from Japan, Italy, and Canada, in addition to those of composers from the United States. After the extended deadline of April 1, our contest committee went to work carefully evaluating each composition for 1) suitability for use in worship, 2) distinctiveness and originality, 3) technically accessible for use by many high school age church or school choirs, 4) of specific interest to the Lutheran Youth Choir as part of our tour program. We are very pleased to announce that the composition which most closely meets our criteria for 2010 is: Why Not the Earth? by Ronald Nelson, Minneapolis, Minnesota Mr. Nelson’s composition will be included in the repertoire of the Lutheran Youth Choir of North America’s next tour, in addition to his prize of $500. The Board of the Lutheran Youth Choir extends its deepest gratitude to all composers who seek to contribute to the continuation and growth of the creation of excellent sacred music for the Church. |
