Dear Parents,
In these tough economic times, we understand the sacrifice
you are making for your family. Why should you consider the
Lutheran Youth Choir in 2012 and 2013?
A message from our Executive Director, Allan Cheshire:
The values and experiences that high school youth have in a program like ours make a difference for the rest of their lives! Just look at some of the testimonials from students and parents on this site. We find that our students learn to grow in the following ways:
Leadership in worship.
Growing through excellent music as the result of preparation before arrival in Glen Ellyn with their own teachers and directors of music, concentrated rehearsals with outstanding choral specialists and exposure to versatile and gifted musicians, and each other.
Learning how music is intertwined with culture, language and architecture and what impact it has on people of all ages.
Making new friends from other parts of the country and the world.
Maturing in faith, as students discuss their beliefs, see the impact of their singing on the people who hear and host us.
Appreciating God's beautiful creation in new places and among people from different cultures, languages, and backgrounds.
Sharing God's goodness with others.
Accepting hospitality and friendship of strangers. This is new for many students, but they learn to understand how important it is not only to offer friendship and acceptance to others, but accepting it from others, graciously and honestly.
International travel provides perspective on our values, politics, cultures and aspirations for ourselves and our families.
These are only some of the values learned by our students and staff. It has been said that the Lutheran Youth Choir changes people. We all know it is true.
